Katarina Witt began to ice skate as early as age 5 years. Then, her talent became evident, and then in Karl-Marx-Stadt she enrolled in a school specifically for kids who have athletic talents. The school where she was enrolled she got to know the teacher Jutta Muler. Witt made her breakthrough in 1982, when she was second in the World Championships at Copenhagen. Her graceful and elegant style caught everyone's attention at that time, and from then ahead she became the dominant figure skater in the game. Olympic Erfolg In Sarajevo, at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for women's figure-skating after a fiercely contested contest. In a tighter competition four years later, Witt was awarded the gold medal. In fact, she did not win the contest for free skating, but she did win gold on the basis of performance during the mandatory figure and short program. Witt was the only female ever since Sonja Haenie to win an apex figure skater. Hall of Fame Witt competed at Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 following a career that was successful as an actor. The crowd was captivated by her despite the fact that she was seventh. Witt was named to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame by its members in 1995.
