Katarina Witt started ice skating when she was five. When her talent for skating was more evident, she received an entry into the Karl-Marx-Stadt school, which focuses on children who have a sporty talent. This was where she got to know their coach Jutta Muller. Breakthrough year Witt's breakthrough came in 1982 when she came 2nd at the World Championships in Copenhagen. Then, she was dominating the sport with the grace and elegance she displayed. Olympic triumph Katarina Wit was awarded gold medals in ice skating for women at the Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a fiercely competitive competition. It was her victory from four years prior that was a lot closer. Even though she fell short in the free-skating competition, the medal was given to her for her performances on the mandatory figures as well as the program in short form. Witt is the first figure skater female to have won this event two times after Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame After enjoying the success of an actress, Witt returned to the sport in the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games. Witt was seventh in the competition, and she delighted the crowd despite not winning an award. In 1995, Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
